Mazzy decides to begin preaching his twisted perspectives of the truth rooted in conspiracy theory and paranoia in the hope of riling people up in the process.
Having been used to the audience offered by a much larger broadcast, Mazzy becomes quickly bored with his new local job located in the aforementioned church basement where the station’s traffic chopper is just sound effects played in a truck while a man at the top of a hill reports what he spies in his binoculars.
Stephen McHattie stars as Grant Mazzy, a once-celebrated shock jock radio host who now finds himself working for a local station in the titular Ontarian small town. Instead, Pontypool is claustrophobic, encapsulating the viewer in a radio booth beneath a church where the news story coming in from the outside world is one of sheer unbelievability met with caustic doubt. The film wasn’t the usual Hollywood fare of big guns and triggered explosions where survivors raced through the streets of a lifeless city, passing by iconic buildings and locations while being chased by spectacular-sized hordes of the undead. I think what’s special about Pontypool is how stripped down it is for a zombie film, especially being released in 2008, amidst the height of the subgenre’s re-emergence. Bruce McDonald’s 2008 film Pontypool is an unconventional zombie film that turns the English language into the virus and radio listeners into a blood-thirsty mob. Or maybe a word has made you so angry it wiped a smile right off your face and left a clenched jaw in its wake, turning your hands to fists.

The Blight ticks for so much that that you cannot reasonably counter them with Restoration skills and have to cure them yourself. Her raw damage output is poor, and she works mainly through the spread of Blight. Ideally, bring her all the way up to position 1 so that she can only fight using Incision. Once the Plague Doctor is in position 2 she loses access to Blinding Gas and can't apply AoE stress to your party, giving you a reprieve against her while you work on everyone else. She's got very low Move resist which exposes her to skills like Come Hither or Daemon's Pull. Trinkets to use with the Plague Doctor include the Carnival Masque or Rotting Trophy to raise her Stress output, to be replaced with the Acrid Vial once unlocked.įirst and foremost: Pull her forward if you can. Incision sometimes gets included as an emergency skill should the Plague Doctor find herself pulled to the front of the formation.īecause the Plague Doctor operates almost exclusively in the back but has no way to compensate getting pulled forward, ensure the rest of your team has movement skills of their own to help reposition the Plague Doctor.
Battlefield Medicine can provide a moment of reprieve to ailed allies at Death's Door. Disorienting Blast is by far her most Stressful attack at a base of 30 Stress, on top of inducing Shuffle, Daze and corpse clearing to wreak havoc on enemy lines. Her Noxious Blast is similarly Stressful and tags frontal enemies with a strong 6-point Blight. Blinding Gas is especially potent, inflicting at least 25 Stress to the enemy backrow and reducing their ACC to make landing hits much more of a pain. The Plague Doctor retains her role as the best Blight specialist in the game, but due to how DoTs can't deliver Deathblows in this game, her value instead lies in her ability to inflict Stress.
